What Kind Of Floor Tile Is Best For Your Bathroom?

April 11, 2013 by Lennie Sansone

Because there are so many to choose from, the task of picking the right material and style for your bathroom can be overwhelming.

There is almost an unlimited variety of floor tiles to choose from. Porcelain, ceramic, marble and vinyl tiles are among the most popular types for bathrooms. They come in a mix of colors, textures, and styles. However, because there are so many to choose from, the task of picking the right material and style for your bathroom can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there are ways to determine what tile is best for your bathroom.

Vinyl Tiles

Vinyl is popular because of its low cost, practicality and easy installation. Vinyl tiles have come a long way in their styles. They are durable, virtually maintenance free and can add beauty to your bathroom.

Ceramic and Porcelain Tiles

Ceramic and porcelain tiles look beautiful and because they come in many colors and patterns, you can find a style that suits your taste. They are not difficult to maintain. However, they may not be as comfortable as vinyl tiles. They can be cold and hard. But they are durable because they resist scratches and wear.

Plastic Laminate Tiles

Plastic laminate tiles are often a good choice for bathroom remodeling. They are a thinner material and will not raise the height of your floor very significantly. They are easy to clean and are durable. However, it is important that any gaps are caulked so that water cannot infiltrate them and cause buckling or other damage. They also come in a variety of colors, textures, and styles.

Stone Tiles

We sometimes think of stones tiles as something outside your home or in the foyer. But they are increasingly becoming popular in other rooms of the house, like the bathroom. Stone stiles are made from a variety of materials such as granite, limestone, slate, and marble. While they can add great beauty, they do require more regular maintenance such as sealing. They also tend to be more expensive. However, atheistically nothing really compares.

Wood Floor Tiles

It takes a brave person to put wood floor tiles in a bathroom. They are easily damaged by water. They are more difficult and expensive to install. In addition, they require more maintenance than other types of tile. They may be a good choice for a bathroom that does not get a lot of shower or bath use.

Other Types of Tiles

Really there is almost a never-ending list of types of tiles you can put in your bathroom. In addition to the ones mentioned above, there are linoleum, cork, and glass tiles. They range in price and variety.
