Turn Your Porch Into A Year Round Paradise

November 14, 2013 by Lennie Sansone

As winter approaches, think about enclosing your porch or deck for year-round use.

Adding Extra Space

As all of the trees are now almost completely void of their leaves and you have to use an extra blanket at night, you may be starting to realize that relaxing evenings on the porch are about to end for the next six months. It does not have to though. If you enjoy the extra lounging space that a porch or deck gives you, consider enclosing it for year-round use.

In addition to adding extra indoor space to your home, an enclosed porch or deck has many other advantages. For one it will add value to your home. Outdoor spaces are not taken into account when your house is appraised. By enclosing a deck or porch you are increasing the square footage of your home. Plus it adds to the overall appearance of your home, giving it more sidewalk appeal.

Annual maintenance is reduced once you take its exposure to outdoor elements away. There is no longer need for any power washing or wood refinishing. The furniture can stay in place to be used year round.

A Few Different Options

Depending on your preference there are a few different options available for converting an outdoor space into an indoor space.  If you want the best of both worlds convert your deck or patio into a screen room with vinyl sliding panels. The panels can be installed from the floor to the ceiling and open 3/4 of the way. This allows you to enjoy the feeling of being outside but still allows for the room to be closed off to the elements whenever you want with ease. The aluminum frames supporting them are sturdy and lightweight and come in a variety of colors that you can choose from. Everything is made to order based on the home remodelers measurements. Have them tinted if you would like them to offer you more shade or privacy from nosy neighbors. In comparison with a glass enclosure, vinyl sliding panels are more affordable and do not break. The vinyl will flex with applied pressure and then return to its shape, not crack or shatter like glass will.

There are some benefits of a glass-enclosed porch or deck that vinyl panels do not have. A glass-enclosed porch or deck is a true addition to a home. The 3-inch glass panels are energy efficient so the space can be heated in the winter or cooled in the summer in the same manner as the rest of your home. The large glass panes will help save energy as they will help heat the space using natural sunlight. Since the room is absolutely closed off from the outside you have no fear about placing electrical outlets and appliances in the space. In fact, with glass enclosures, you are remodeling an outdoor space into an extra room.

Making A Decision

Before making any final decision it is best to talk with an expert in patio room conversions. Talk to them candidly about your needs and expectations of the project and allow them to advise you on which option will serve you best. By this time next year, you could be sipping cocoa in your new sunroom instead of storing away the patio furniture.  Call AAA Remodeling Company now at (636) 349-5777.
